atlas A shared sky of evening stars Leave a Star

About atlas

Hello.

I'm so glad you found your way here.

This project began long before this website existed. It began with a song called Shondhatara / সন্ধ্যাতারায়, a Bengali word that means evening star. During one of the hardest seasons of my life, this song became one of the quiet things I kept returning to. It didn't magically fix everything, and it certainly didn't make the difficult days disappear. It simply reminded me that even when the night feels endless, there are still small lights worth looking for.

I decided I would begin sharing this project exactly 1,000 days after one of the darkest days of my life — not because I spent those days waiting for everything to get better, but because I spent them discovering that hope rarely arrives all at once.

It arrives quietly. In songs. In people. In sunsets. In conversations that stay with you long after they end. In the comfort of coming home. In laughter that catches you by surprise. In dreaming about a future you're not quite ready to give up on.

Over those 1,000 days, I found more evening stars than I ever expected.

Most of them weren't extraordinary on their own, but together, they became a constellation.

Somewhere along the way, I realized something. Maybe everyone has evening stars. Maybe we all have small things that quietly carried us through seasons we never imagined we'd survive. Maybe we just don't talk about them enough.

So I built this place and called it atlas.

An atlas usually helps us understand a world by mapping the places within it. I started wondering what another kind of atlas might map.

Not countries, borders or roads. Lights.

The things people turn to when life becomes dark. Songs. People. Memories. Places. Pets. Dreams. Tiny moments that might mean almost nothing to one person and everything to another.

An evening star doesn’t have to come from the hardest moment of your life. It can be anything that made a difficult day softer, gave you something to look forward to, helped you feel less alone, or simply brought you comfort when you needed it. Nothing is too ordinary to matter here.

I think of each of these as an evening star. Together, they form what atlas is becoming: a shared sky of evening stars.

At the center of atlas is the Starfield. Among the quiet lights of the Starfield, you’ll find stars left by people sharing something that helped them keep going. Each shared star holds a story, and every new story becomes part of a growing constellation. atlas isn't a map that tells anyone exactly where to go; it's an atlas of the things that have helped people find their way. It’s a reminder that even when we are living completely different lives in completely different corners of the world, we are still capable of leaving little lights for one another.

My hope is that someone, somewhere in the world, will arrive here late at night, wander through the Starfield, stumble across a stranger's story, and discover a little bit of light they didn't know they needed. Maybe one of these stars will become yours. And maybe yours will one day become someone else's.

Thank you for being here. If you're ready, I'd love for you to leave an evening star of your own.

With love,

Tanvi Mathrubootham
